Kizmit

Some Catkins adopters still like to keep an eye on our Petfinder page (Thanks by the way!), but I wanted to share this amazing story with all of you that may not be able to keep up with everything going on with the rescue.

I made the decision to take in a happy-go-lucky little Papillion from a local animal control facility.  Unfortunately, it no longer surprises me when people don't show up to claim their lost pets, but after getting to know Kizmit it became apparent to me that this little girl would not stray far from her family.  So I began to suspect that they may have "dumped" her somewhere for someone else to find.  The big questions was why?  Here was a happy, LOVING, healthy little girl that knew how to sit and was housebroken.  Why would someone not want her?

About a week later I found out the answer.  We brought Kizzy into the vet to be scanned for a microchip, updated on her vaccines and spayed.  I got a call from my vet about an hour later, so I knew that whatever I was going to hear wasn't going to be good.  

Kizmit had grade 3 luxating patellas, this meant that within two years she would have such debilitating arthritis that she would have a hard time walking.  Basically, her kneecaps don't stay where they should in her joint and move to the inside of her knee joint when she walks.  If we could get the surgery taken care of within the next couple of months, no arthritis would have developed in the joint and she would be able to lead a normal happy life.

Well, the answer was simple:  we need to get the surgery done.  Not so simple was the answer to: how do we raise $1500 in a few months?  I still don't know how we did it, but thanks to all our Amazing doners, we raised the necessary funds to get this puppy her life back!!  

Kizmit is currently living with a loving family and is scheduled for surgery on August 12th!!  I will definitely post updates as they come in, but I can't thank all of you enough for giving this girl such a happy ending!!

This was Catkins first big fundraising effort and the end result was being able to save the life of a needy animal!  With the help of everyone here, we are making a difference for the animals in the north woods!!

A Whole Year Later!

It's been a little over a year since Jasper and Bryce came home to be with their new family. They are both active (very) and friendly with everyone they meet. Jasper was such a little fluff of fur that I never really thought he'd grow so much! At a great 14 pounds, Jasper is a big boy. He loves to sit on my shoulder. He's also a fantastic alarm clock. He wakes me up every morning around 5!

Bryce loves to play with Jasper. They race all over. Bryce also enjoys doing my hair! He grabs my head and shoves his nose right into my scalp, sometimes with teeth!

Both are great additions to the family!
